The desk from which I type this blog post was bought 12 years ago, at the IKEA store in Pittsburgh, PA. I remember packing the flat packs and driving home with twine and flags blowing in the wind- hoping for no rain and even fewer potholes.
That trip made for a really long day.
As I get older, and occasionally visit Pittsburgh for family fun (there is so much to do in Pittsburgh there for families) and still stop by IKEA, it’s more than likely that my family will spend the night.
I received accommodations to facilitate this post.
Our Stay at Red Roof Plus+ in Pittsburgh
Most recently, we stayed at a Red Roof Plus+ near the Airport, and about 90 seconds from IKEA in the Robinson Shopping area.
This inexpensive stay, for the weekend, was advertised at $63 online and $75 on site- so a real bargain. And it’s the Red Roof Inn we all grew up with, but some of their locations have become Red Roof Plus+ by investing in some serious upgrades.
Check out some of the photos below of the + in Red Roof Plus+.
We were greeted warmly by their staff. Free Coffee and a snack area are accessible 24 hours. Our room even came with a complimentary welcome snack box with bottled water, popcorn, orange juice, trail mix, and a couple granola bars. There is also Seattle’s Best Coffee® in the room too.
The room was clean, came made with a hardwood-like floor, some of the best pillows known to man, updated contemporary furniture, and a color scheme that matches throughout. The room comes with a flat screen HD TV with 36+ HD channels to relax and unwind from the day. There is also free Wi-Fi.
Did I mention the pillows? (Actually, Red Roof Plus+ sent me some to try out a few months ago- they are my favorite and I steal them from my husband regularly!) The Serta beds are amazingly comfortable and the Love Your Linens bedding is plush and luxurious. There is no way you can’t get a great night’s sleep at Red Roof Plus+ locations!
The bathroom was updated with spa-like amenities like granite counters and a shower head with multiple settings. It was well lit and immaculately clean.
The Red Roof Plus+ Pittsburgh Airport South is very close to a huge shopping area- Robinson Mall, IKEA, Duluth Trading, about 50,000 restaurants and every other store you can imagine. Now, it is a little hillier than someone from Akron is used to, but, that’s what makes it exciting- you never know what’s over the next hill!
On a side note, IKEA is opening a store in Columbus, Ohio and opens June 7th, 2017. There are three Red Roof Plus locations in Columbus as well. So, wherever you go, either South East or South West from Akron Ohio, there’s an inexpensive place to stay that has the upgrades that make it feel you got more than your monies worth. Check out all the Red Roof Plus+ locations in Ohio and around the country. Pets stay free as well.
