Ferry Ride to Family Fun at Put-in-Bay

miller-ferry group travel to put in bay

Sharing new experiences with family and friends is so much fun! We just went to Put-in-Bay with extended family and had a blast! The day started out with HUGE smiles, tons of laughter, and a great time on Miller Ferry!

I received tickets to facilitate this post.

Miller Ferry leaves Port Clinton/Catawba Island starting at 6am in the summer. We did a pretty good job getting everyone on board at 10am after a quick 1-1/2 hour drive from the Akron area. Pick up your tickets at the booth. You can even bring your bike or car for additional fee.

We stood on the lower deck, aka splash zone! Don’t worry, you don’t have to get soaked like my daughter but on a hot day, your kids might want to do just that!  My niece and nephews had never been on a ferry before and certainly not in the splash zone. They were squealing with delight and excitement!!

The boat ride across Lake Erie to Put-in-Bay is one of the highlights of our entire trip! We love the feel of the breeze on our faces, the gorgeous views of Lake Erie and of Port Clinton as it disappears and Put-in-Bay as we approach. There is nothing like it! This was the first time my brother road Miller Ferry too, he couldn’t believe the outstanding views. I just loved watching how everyone was enjoying the ferry ride in their own way, especially for those riding for the first time.

While on board, you can stand below on the lower deck like we did or sit upstairs. There are plenty of benches both indoors and outdoors upstairs for a relaxing, comfortable 20 minute ferry ride to Put-in-Bay. You’ll have scenic views wherever you sit.

Loading and unloading on Miller Ferry is quick. Once you get the tickets at Port Clinton, you’ll hand your ticket to one of the staff upon arrival. Keep your return ticket safe for your return trip.

There is a nice sitting area on the Put-in-Bay side as well. Be sure to arrive a little early before the scheduled departure and don’t miss the last ferry of the day!We have always been impressed with the reliable service of Miller Ferry. They are always on time. The ferry is always clean and in excellent working order – I’ve always felt 100% safe with my kids on board. The staff has always been friendly and professional. It wasn’t until this recent trip did I witness how amazing and kind they were!

We had a medical situation that required additional assistance getting on and off of the ferry. One of our family members fell ill and couldn’t walk. The staff of Miller Ferry was extremely attentive and helpful. They assisting us with a quick golf cart ride into the ferry and allowed us to sit on some chairs on the lower deck. I never noticed the chairs before, but there are a few for people with canes that can’t walk up to the above deck or stand.  The genuine care, concern, and help that we received was stellar. I can’t express how thankful we were for how they went above and beyond their duty. The folks at Miller Ferry are top notch.
