Massanutten Four Season Resort Mountain Vacation Itinerary

Once you arrive at Massanutten Four Season Resort, you never have to leave. This resort community has more than enough activities, restaurants, entertainment, and nature to explore for weeks! My family enjoyed just a taste of what Massanutten has to offer in our 4 day stay.

Day One Massanutten Mountain Vacation Itinerary

Explore the resort. Massanutten is located on over 6,000 acres so there is plenty to explore!

We started big with the Massanutten Overlook! We were excited to be on a mountain vacation, so it made sense to start with this beautiful overlook.

There were 2 trails nearby that were 2-4 miles long. We started up one but quickly realized we weren’t prepared with the right footwear for such a hike.  Plus, there were signs that bears frequent the area and I wasn’t ready for that just yet either! ha!

The Arboretum Self-Guided Family Hike is an easy family-friendly hike though the forest with a stream running alongside most of the way

. This is a wonderful start to an outdoor adventure vacation! Stay on the path while hiking in the mountain – there are bears and venomous snakes (more on that later), however, let your kids explore and have fun in nature!

Visit the Family Adventure Park for an afternoon of zip-lining (800 feet high!), canopy tour, kids’ adventure ropes course, winter or summer tubing, quick jump – 30′ free fall, and kids bouncy houses. Purchase a wristband for multiple activities or pay per activity.

We loved the summer tubing! It was such a thrill going down hill in tubes – alone and as a train together. We didn’t even have to walk up the hill, a people conveyor belt brought us up the hill.

There are three levels of rock wall climbing to test your strength. I made it to the first level!

Day Two Massanutten Mountain Vacation Itinerary

The Shenandoah Skyline Drive runs through the Shenandoah National Park. The starting point is about 30 minutes from Massanutten, making it an easy day trip.  Your pass gives you access to the scenic drive for a week, so get it at the start of your vacation so you can go back anytime.

We took the South River Falls hike. It took us about 3-1/2 hours. The hike offered gorgeous views of the river along the way.

The waterfall was stunning – more than this picture can capture.

We also ran into a rattlesnake – read the full story here.

After an adventurous day at Shenandoah Skyline Drive, enjoy a restful evening at the pool Massanutten resort has pools throughout, located near lodging areas. This is our pool for Regal Vista lodging.

Day Three Massanutten Mountain Vacation Itinerary

Plan on spending the entire day at the Massanutten WaterPark. Open year-round, the indoor waterpark is always heated to 84° Fahrenheit. In the summer, enjoy the outdoor waterpark at no additional charge. This complex also has several dining options and gift shop.

The indoor waterpark includes water fortress, inflatable adventures, tube slides, body slides, pools, lazy river floats, and hot tubs.  We loved the tube slides because we could go down on double tubes together!

The outdoor wave pool was our favorite place to hang out during the hot afternoon. There are also outdoor body slides, activity pool, and kiddie area.

For dinner, check out Campfire Grill for a hearty meal the whole family will enjoy! Read the mouth-watering full review here.
