Best way to get around Put-in-Bay: Island Transportation Lime Kiln Golf Carts

We have been to Put-in-Bay several times. My kids favorite way to tour the island is on the “silly cars” aka golf carts. On our recent trip to Put-in-Bay, we rented a 6-passenger golf cart from Island Transportation Lime Kiln Golf Carts. Once you get off the Miller Boat Line Ferry, just walk to the top of the hill and you’ll find Island Transportation. They were really quite at processing our order and getting us into our very own golf cart.

I went with my friend and her kids with my kids on this trip to Put-in-Bay. I’ve never driven a golf cart before so I was excited to try. Although my friend, Annlouise offered to drive so I could take pictures and video, I declined. I was like a kid with a new toy. I wanted to drive the golf cart! It was so fun scootin’ around the island. Our kids thought it was a blast riding around with no car seats (Lime Kiln rents baby seats) with no windows or doors.

Don’t worry, I did share nicely with Annlouise and let her drive a while. In fact, she and her husband have vacationed at Put-in-Bay many times so she knew the island well. She took us to South Bass Island State Park and a few other spots that I had never been to before. After our encounter with the beach at the state park, our golf cart became the “Hillbilly Golf Cart of Put-in-Bay” as we used the frame as a makeshift clothes line to dry our kiddo’s clothing. We were a sight to be seen! It didn’t matter though, because we were having so much fun!

You can rent the carts by the hour or day starting at just $11 a hour or $60 a day at Lime Kiln. Our 6-passenger golf cart cost $80 for the entire day.  You can also rent bicycles, tandems, and trailers.
