A Reason to Smile with Edy’s Slow Churned Ice Cream

This has been a HOT Summer in Ohio. My family has consumed more ice cream this year than any other. It is the treat of choice for the Summer, right?!  I live by the belief of everything in moderation. Even so, ice cream can pack on the calories into any diet. I have never tried reduced calorie ice cream, and was asked to check out Edy’s Slow Churned ice cream. My family eagerly agreed.

For those of us living East of the Rockies, it is Edy’s brand but if you live West of the Rockies, this ice cream is marketed under the Dreyer’s brand name. It all taste the same, so read on!

Edy’s Slow Churned Ice Cream Review

I didn’t tell my family that Edy’s Slow Churned Ice Cream has 1/2 the fat and 1/3 fewer calories of ice cream.  I actually let my kids pick out their favorite flavors while at Giant Eagle. They have a great selection of 1/2 gallon size and even singe serve size containers, which happen to be on sale this week!  We chose the Edys Slow Churned Chocolate and Chocolate Chip Ice Cream.

As a special treat on another HOT afternoon, we went outside the our playground where we often have picnics. I felt better knowing that I was giving my kids a tasty treat that was less fat and calories than other ice cream. With childhood obesity at alarming rates, it is our duty as parents to watch what we give our children, even at dessert and snack time.

My daughter tried the Edy’s Slow Churned Chocolate Ice Cream since she loves anything chocolate!  She loved it, although couldn’t quite finish the container on her own being just 5 years old. Good thing I was there to help her. 😉 It was a very rich and creamy chocolate ice cream. I honestly couldn’t tell that there was less fat and calories in the ice cream!

My son chose the Edy’s Slow Churned Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. I was surprised he didn’t choose his favorite Mint Chocolate Chip. It was delicious with very large slivers of chocolate throughout.  At age 7, he was able to finish and enjoyed every bite – besides the bite mom stole! 🙂

My kids had no idea that Edy’s Slow Churned Ice Cream has less calories and less fat than ordinary ice cream, and neither could I. I can find no reason not to choose this delicious ice cream treat any time of year for my and your family. Give it a try!

A Reason to Smile

I have such a heart for Operation Smile,  they provide free surgeries to repair cleft lips, cleft palates, and other face deformitities for kids around the world. The before and after photos of these kids are amazing, let alone their life transformations! Edy’s is donating $5 to Operation Smile every time their fans upload their “ice cream smile”. Plus, you have the chance for your photo to be used on a Slow Churned AD or carton. How cool would that be?! I uploaded my daughter’s photo from above, it was super simple to do. I felt good knowing that I helped donate $5 to Operation Smile just by uploading my photo to the Edy’s Facebook A Reason to Smile App.
