Hooray! It is BBQ season! We have been firing up our grill and trying out new recipes all month long. Last week, I received a copy of Troy Black’s new BBQ cookbook, All Fired Up and promotional item for this review. Troy’s cookbook is part of the Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour and is inspiring people like you and me to test our BBQ skills with the Meet Its Meat challenge.
My husband switched from gas to charcoal grill a couple years ago and and has sense become somewhat of a BBQ master. Everything he cooks taste delicious. He was happy to take on this Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour Meet Its Meat challenge.
First off, let me tell you how gorgeous this All Fired Up cookbook is with full color pictures and more! It is 288 beautiful pages full of “smokin’ hot BBQ secrets from the South’s best pitmasters!” My husband and I both enjoyed flipping through all the pages, checking out the mouth-watering recipes, and amazing tips on barbecuing, brining, grilling, smoking, and more.

Meet the Meat at Sam’s Club
I stopped by my local Sam’s Club to pick up all the ingredients for our BBQ. Sam’s Club offers a premium meat selection at great prices. If you haven’t shopped the meat, poultry and seafood at Sam’s Club, you are missing out. All the meats are hand-cut by an in-house butcher. While at Sam’s Club, I was able to “meet” a wide array of premium cuts of fresh meat. They have every from loin chops to ribs to strip steak filet mignon.
[slickr-flickr tag=samsmeetthemeat]We were even was offered a sample of rib-eye that my kids and I really enjoyed. I picked up a pack of ribeye and Weber steak ‘n chop seasoning for delicious, easy steak sandwiches. I can never resist the recipes that we get to sample at Sam’s Club, can you?
All Fired Up Recipes
There are so many recipes in the All Fired Up cookbook that I want to try. I invited my parents and nephews over for a BBQ, I tried to select recipes that I thought my family would all enjoy this weekend – and scored with every single one! I bought most of the ingredients at Sam’s Club for the recipes – giving me the most bang for my buck!
Grilled Steak with Citrus-Chile Butter Recipe
I have never made a recipe like the Grilled Steak with Citrus-Chile Butter Recipe I found in the All Fired Up cookbook. I was excited to try something new. I purchased beef boneless strip steak for just $6.98/lb, a great deal for steak. The recipe called for tri-tip steaks but I prefer strip steak.
Of the recipes in this cookbook, this must be the easiest to prepare – which is not why I chose it. Many of the recipes aren’t difficult, per se but require hours to marinade. The reason I chose this recipe is because it offered me the chance to make a citrus-chile butter, something I’ve never attempted and it had a side of grilled onions – yum! The butter was quite easy to make and I was able to utilize fresh thyme from my herb garden. My husband grilled the steaks on our charcoal grill until done – about 20-30 minutes. Next, we rubbed the steaks with the citrus-chile butter and covered with foil.
[slickr-flickr tag=samsclubsteak]The grilled steak with citrus-chile butter recipe was amazing, full of flavor, juicy, and delicious! My family was over for dinner and everyone agreed it was a very good steak recipe! I wasn’t sure since the recipe called for jalapeno pepper but my young kids and nephews all enjoyed it!
On the side, I grilled sweet vidalia onions on our Kenyon indoor grill. I love having a second grill for big BBQ feasts, plus I use it all year long for delicious grilled foods. The recipe also suggest grilling green onions as a substitute.
I was so happy that we had steak leftovers for lunch the next day. We rewarmed the steak, added fresh butter and grilled onions on top for a delicious steak sandwich. It was just as good as the day before and perfect for lunch.
Chipotle-Mango Salsa Recipe
Another recipe that I tried from All Fired Up was the Chipotle-Mango Salsa Recipe. It was also a huge hit at our BBQ. Although a bit on the spicy side with the chipotle pepper in adobe sauce, this recipe is fabulous. The combination of sweet and spicy was perfect with tortilla chips but can also be topped with chicken, pork, or fish from Sam’s Club.
[slickr-flickr tag=samsclubmangosalsa]This recipe is a keeper! Next time, I may only put in about 1/2 the chipotle pepper for those of us that don’t like it too hot. 🙂
Tomato Bruschetta Recipe
I really like brushetta so when I found the Tomato Bruschetta Recipe in the All Fired Up cookbooks, I had to try it. This recipe was a little different than other recipes I’ve tried. It requires you to brush both sides of French bread with olive oil and then grill it. I’ve never grilled bread before, so this was a fun learning experience. Honestly, it couldn’t be simpler and taste great hot off the grill. The tomato bruschetta was simple and perfect.
