Thumbprint Jelly Cookies Recipe

This is a recipe from my mother-in-law. It has always been one of my kids’ favorite cookies since they were old enough to eat cookies. It is very simple to make and full of wonderful flavor of your favorite jelly. This recipe is easy.

Thumbprint Jelly Cookies Recipe Ingredients

  • 1/2 c margarine
  • 1/2 c butter, softened
  • 2/3 c sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2-1/2 c flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Thumbprint Jelly Cookies Recipe Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees (I heat to 440 degrees for convection oven)
  2. Blend margarine, butter, and sugar together till well blended
  3. Add egg and vanilla
  4. Mix flour and salt together in another bowl, then add to butter mixture
  5. Roll dough into 1″ balls
  6. Create scoop in the center with floured thumb or small rounded spoon
  7. Add jelly or preserves to center – add only a small amount or it will run over. I use Smucker’s Natural Fruit Spreads – read my sponsored Smucker’s Natural Fruit Spread Review here)
  8. Bake 5-6 minutes, cookies are done when jelly bubbles.
