Tackle Fall Honey-Do List in 20 Minutes

With Fall comes home maintenance jobs. My husband and I work together on taking care of our home but I must admit that he takes care of the majority of home maintenance. I’m the one that pushes to start home remodeling projects while he keeps everything in running order.  Maintaining is just as important, if not more so than starting a new renovation.  Mike Holmes, the trusted HGTV contractor has created a list of home maintenance jobs that should be on everyone’s Fall Honey-Do List. Each project takes 20 minutes or less and are so easy that you or your husband can tackle them.

I received filters and a promotional item to facilitate this post.

Fall Honey-Do List in 20 Minutes

1) Change Air Filter

I have never done this from start to finish and had my husband show me how today. It is important for women to know how to do simple maintenance tasks too.

I suggest that you upgrade to the Filtrete Micro Allergen Reduction Filter this Fall. Not only will it provide cleaner air for your home but will help protect and maintain your air system as well.

FiltreteFallMaintenance (5)The hardest part about changing your furnace filter is removing the old one. They sure do fit snugly and tight. I did need a little help from my seasoned-furnance-filter-remover husband on this.FiltreteFallMaintenance (6)Wow, look at the difference! You should change your filter every quarter during high allergy season. We replaced ours last in May. FiltreteFallMaintenance (7)Pushing the new filter into the furnace is easy-peasy. Just be sure you put it in the correct side up. There is an arrow on the filter to guide you. 🙂FiltreteFallMaintenance (1)Filtrete Micro Allergen Reduction Filter captures allergen, dust, pollen, and lint from the 3,400 gallons of air we breathe every day. While doing this, the unique design still allows for air flow to prevent stress on the system. Other brands offer tightly woven filters that restrict air flow – not good! For those suffering from allergies this Fall, the Filtrete Micro Allergen Reduction Filter  is a must-have in your home. Priced at only $10.97, it is worth the investment for cleaner indoor air any time of the year.

2) Lower Hot Water Heater

There is no need to turn your hot water heater higher than 120 degree Fahrenheit. Any higher and you risk potential scalding.

3) Clean Your Stove

Be sure to wash away grease and grime from stove grates, burners, and coils to protect your home from fire risk. Don’t forget your range hood and filters too! One thing that I love about my Best Range Hood is that the stainless steel/aluminum mesh filters are dishwasher safe! It makes cleaning super easy. I use a JAWS cleaner for the stainless steel frame. Below is dirty.

4) Check Fire Extinguishers

If you don’t have one, be sure to buy one at least for your kitchen and garage, and on every level of your home. Check the expiration dates to be sure they aren’t expired. We have a Kidde Fire Extinguishers under our kitchen sink.

5) Inspect Foundation

Inspect your home’s foundation for cracks and fix them before they lead to deterioration and/or wood rot.
