Bible reading increases by 50% during the month of January. Many people make New Year’s Resolutions to read more of the Bible or read the Bible in 1 year at this time. Studies show that if you don’t form a solid habit by mid-February, you’ll stop and that is why we see Bible reading (and other New Year’s resolutions) begin to drop off by mid-February.

Daily devotions and allowing God’s Word to penetrate into our lives is probably the best New Year’s resolution we could make for the impact will go on forever. Many of us have busy schedules and even with good intentions, our Bible reading sometimes suffers.
My pastor was talking about how a man he knew had a 50 minute commute to work every day but he had made the resolution to read the Bible through in 1 year. With work, the long commute, and family duties, every year, he would fail at his resolution. Last year, he received the Bible on CD and he went through the entire Bible not once but 6 TIMES last year. He listened to the Bible to and from work every day. Besides sticking with his resolution, his mornings and evenings were in God’s Word. What a life changing impact that would make.

I started listening to the Book of Galatians since that is the book we are studying in our Small Group. I have enjoyed listening to it while cooking dinner, cleaning, and just relaxing on the couch. What I’ve really enjoyed is watching my kids stop what they are doing and listen to it. What could be better than having God’s Word float throughout the house?
My daughter listens to her Jesus Storybook Bible on CD every night at bedtime. She has the stories memorized! When we have God’s Word in our heart and mind, we are more open to hearing what He has to say and apply it to our daily lives.
