I Can Read! Books Review
Now that my daughter is going to be starting Kindergarten soon, I am looking for books that will introduce her to reading in a fun way. I have found the Zonderkidz “I Can Read!” series to be good for my son, and now I am looking for stories that will interest my daughter. The “I Can Read!” series includes a variety of themes including The Berestain Bears, Veggie Tales, Rainforest Friends, Robots, Jesus Parables, and more. We were able to review the Princess series.
There are 4 books in the I Can Read! Princess series. We were able to check out two.
The I Can Read! series are offered in 4 levels. The Princess Twins Play in the Garden is Level 1 with simple sentences for eager new readers. I probably should have started with the “My First” level that is good for emergent readers, however, she will quickly grow into Level 1 in Kindergarten. It is for ages 4 and up.
I really like the story of the twin princesses playing in the garden. There are big differences between the 2 princesses featured in the story. Princess Abby is beautiful and loves to play like any other kid. Princess Emma is so afraid of getting her dress dirty and not looking like a princess that she misses out on all the fun. When she does get mud on her dress, her fears of getting dirty disappears because it already happened and the world didn’t end because of it! Princess Emma decides to join in on the fun and has a fantastic time.
This story is great for girls who are at the time of their lives where they want to be “princesses” but should also be outside playing and having fun. It is a great story about having fun being a kid. I’ve always been the type of mom that lets her kids play and get dirty. That is what Shout is for!
The Princess Twins and the Tea Party is again all about Princess Emma, who seems to be very preoccupied with doing everything just the right way. She is micromanaging everyone from the cook to the puppy when see finally realizes after everything goes wrong that only God is perfect. Ouch! That is a lesson that I need to remember when I’m running out getting things ready for a party! This book has a timeless lesson behind it.

The Merchant and the Thief Book Review
The Merchant and the Thief is inspired by an ancient Indian folk tale. It is a great book for both boys and girls with a lesson for all ages. Written by the popular and profound pastor, Dr. Zacharias, the emotion and truth is revealed in a delightful, yet penetrating way to reflect the truth of God’s love. The story is about a poor, struggling fruit vendor who is envious of his neighbor who is rich from his family’s jewelry business. When the fruit vendor plots to steal his neighbor’s precious jewels, he finds that the man has an even greater treasure – God’s love.
