I am proud to be a 3M-sponsored blogger, and as part of my responsibilities, I get the opportunity to evaluate 3M products. Opinions are my own and additional products used in the project were selected by me.

I have reoccurring shoulder pain that my chiropractor compares to carpal tunnel syndrome. It flares up after excess physical exertion. This weekend, we put new drywall in our utility room. My husband did all of the heavy lifting of building and securing the new walls. My job was to tape, apply joint compound to the seams, and sand it after it dried.

This work required a lot of repetitive shoulder movements, and now my shoulder pain requires the RICE technique.

RICE stands for rest, ice, compression, and elevation. It is the best at-home treatment for minor bruises and sprains. After an injury, the RICE treatment can relieve pain, reduce swelling, and encourage healing.

How to Use the RICE Technique After an Injury

I use the RICE treatment every time my shoulder pain flares up.

Rest

Let yourself rest for a couple of days following an injury, so it can begin healing itself. Stop running, playing tennis, home remodeling, etc.

Compression

Keep a bandage on for additional support and compression to prevent swelling. Do not to wrap the bandage too tight or too loose. I use the new ACE™ Brand Elastic Bandage with the ACE™ Brand Clip because it offers support, compression, and the new clip ensures the bandage never slips.

This is a good video from ACE™ Brand that shows how to wrap a shoulder:

Elevation

Keep your injured body part elevated higher than your heart as much as possible.

Ice

For the first couple of hours after injuring yourself, apply ice to your injury for 10 minutes on, and 10 minutes off.

I use an ACE™ Brand Elastic Bandage with the improved ACE™ Brand Clip to secure an ice pack on my shoulder. To be sure you don’t get frost bite, never place an ice pack directly against your skin.

If you fear that you have a severe injury or broken bones, always seek medical assistance immediately. If you don’t start feeling better after a couple of days utilizing the RICE technique, you should schedule an appointment with your doctor.

More on the New ACE™ Brand Elastic Bandage with the improved ACE™ Brand Clip

We just started using the new ACE™ Brand Elastic Bandage with the improved ACE™ Brand Clip for a number of medical reasons, including compression for shin splints and wrist pain. I get wrist pain when I work on my computer for too many hours at a time. When I start to feel pain, I simply wrap my wrist with the ACE™ Brand Elastic Bandage. The compression and added support relieves my wrist pain, so that I am able to finish my work.

I like how this new bandage stays in place with the innovative ACE™ Brand Clip. It doesn’t have pesky metal clips that are hard to use and snag clothing. The new ACE™ Brand Clip is an easy-to-use plastic clip that you press down onto the bandage and click into place. It securely holds the ACE™ Brand Elastic Bandage in place, even when you wear it all day, and during exercise.

I’m so glad ACE™ Brand has fixed the clip!
