TruGreen Murdered My Weeds

So, My yard… Ya.  Its shall we say a process.  As some long time readers know, we moved into a corner of the woods here in Summit County in March of 2010.  The property was beautiful!  With everything covered in a thick layer of fluffy white snow, we were sure that this was going to be a WONDERFUL place!

Fast Forward, Oh, about 22 degrees Fahrenheit, and we found out that the front yard was covered in Moss, and the backyard was solid MUD due to the installation of a state of the art septic tank, and the removal (sigh) of an in ground pool.  And we thought we only had to worry about the INSIDE!

So what we’ve done so far:

  • Ripped up 4 inches (DEEP) of moss in the front yard.
  • Raked through and Seeded 1/2 acre in the back.
  • Started mowing the whole yard with our SmartCUT.

What we needed help with:

  • Finding out Why So much Moss Grows and NOT grass
  • Killing The Weeds that are EVERYWHERE on our wooded Lot
  • Strengthen the Grass we already have
  • Remove the Crab Grass

We called on TruGreen to help us with our Issues!

Stage 1 – Analyze The Soil

The Consultants at TruGreen (We met Drew) came out and took a look at our yard and patted us on our back because it was so so bad.  But more importantly they assured us that they will take care of everything and bring it to good health.  They took several core samples of our yard, 3 in the front, and 3 in the back, to take back to the lab and analyze for their content

Although my backyard was healthy, my front yard was a haven for Moss- hence the 4″ of moss in the yard when we moved in.  We received a report that I handily photographed below.

Stage 2- Murder The Weeds And Green the Grass

TruGreen applied a +Nitrogen +Phosphorous +Potassium Fertilizer to our yard.  They’ll be back soon to apply about 100 lbs of lime to our yard to keep balancing out the front yard. Our yard will slowly come back to life and green up in a healthier soil.

TruGreen Applying Fertilizer and Herbicide

TruGreen applied a Broadleaf Weed Control ,Tri-Power(MCPA, MCPP, dicamba) to our lawn.  This herbicide is absolutely doing what it is supposed to…see below.
