My 5 year old daughter was beyond excited when we received 2 Fijit Friends Newbies. We received the blue Mila and the green Melodee. Fijit Friends are intended for ages 6 and up, primarily for girls. My 5 year old girl has no problem understanding how to play with them and my 7 year old boy likes playing with them too. So, take that for what you want. I think both boys and girls could have fun with this toy.
This interactive toy is so fun! As you can see in the above video, my daughter loves to dance to the music her Fijit Friends make! It is a very lively, uplifting, fun music!
By squeezing the sides of the Newbies, it will sing. They start off by humming softly, then sing. The ears also move up and down when you squeeze their sides. As your Newbie gets to know your child and receive praises, it will actually learn to sing better! Your child has the power to teach their Newbie to get better by rewarding and interacting with them. Each Newbie has nurture buttons on their forehead and on their front 2 paws. Press these areas after it sings to reward and praise it. It will respond with purrs, giggles, and coo. It is soo cute to hear.

Fijit Friends Newbies are fun alone but a blast when you have more than one! They actually interact with each other! When you press their belly buttons at the same time, the Newbies will singing duets. They will play the same song and each will take one verse at a time. It is a cute feature. My daughter was confused at this concept because she didn’t think they were singing the same song since they weren’t singing together, I’m sure this is an age thing. She likes pressing their buttons and making them sing together though! She took this picture of them (and actually the above 2!).

Last year, we were introduced to this Christmas’ hottest toy, the Original Fijit Friend. My kids like to play with it still! It is so clever and funny with its quirky jokes, phrases, and fun songs. What a genius idea for Mattel to create the Fijit Friends Newbies to interact with the Original Fijit Friends.
If you have an Original Fijit Friend, your kids will love adding a Newbie or two to the family. It is fun to see them interact! By pressing the Chrip Mode button on the back of the Original Fijit Friend, it will seek out the sonic chirp of other Fijit Friends (Original & Newbies). Press the forehead of the Newbie and it will send the sonic chirp. Once they are received, the Original Fijit Friend will greet the Newbie with a phrase like “What’s shakin’ bacon?”. When the Newbie sings, the Original Fijit will dance and say other phrases. It’s really cute to watch and play with.
This part was my daughter’s favorite part. She said that the Original Fijit Friend said phrases to the Newbie that she’s never heard before! She was SOO excited! I love seeing her face light up the way it did and hearing the excitement in her voice!
