Who can resist delicious pancake syrup – especially if you warm it up a little. Smothered pancakes or waffles is my guilty pleasure. Mrs. Butterworth’s was recently voted the best pancake syrup by Epicurious website with Log Cabin in second place. Both are rich and delicious in my book.
I received Mrs. Buttersworth and Log Cabin syrup and a promotional item to facilitate this post.
Breakfast + Pancake Syrup = LOVE
My family loves it when breakfast involves pancake syrup – what’s not to love?! Like you, I use pancake syrup for many breakfast items like French toast, pancakes, and waffles. I love it when it spills over into the bacon, eggs, and sausage too. The sweeter the better! I try to make a fresh breakfast with pancake syrup a couple times a week with a tall glass of cold milk.
Mrs. Buttersworth’s pancake syrup is thicker than most, so choose that brand if you like it thick and rich. Below are scrumptious French Toast Strips from Schwan’s with Mrs. Buttersworth’s syrup. I started buying Log Cabin syrup recently when I found it in a value size at Walmart, it is an unbeatable price! Plus, I like that it contains no high fructose corn syrup. It is a lighter syrup that taste great. My kids love it when I load the pancakes with fresh blueberries!
Cooking and Baking with Pancake Syrup
The uses for pancake syrup go way beyond breakfast. In fact, you can find recipes for entrees to desserts on the Mrs. Buttersworth’s website and the Log Cabin website. I often use pancake syrup to sweeten dishes like hot oatmeal, plain yogurt, milkshakes/smoothies, baked beans, glazed carrots, and in my tea and coffee. Pancake syrup is an easy way to sweeten any dish.
I just found a new recipe this week that involves pancake syrup and salad. I had to try it and my family loved it! What’s not to love if syrup is involved?!
I posted the Almond Vinaigrette Salad Dressing Recipe earlier this week. It had some odd ingredient combinations that worked out great including pancake syrup, almond extract, vanilla extract, and mustard. Honestly, I wasn’t so sure about it but I gave it a shot.
The syrup was notable part of the dressing, just add it to the rest of the ingredients. I mixed it all to my KitchenAid mixer and hoped for the best!
The result was a lovely spinach salad with FULL of flavor. I didn’t add anything besides fresh tomatoes to the recipe because there was so much flavor in the dressing. Believe me, the below was not a boring or ordinary salad.
I wasn’t sure how much to use in this small salad and added a bit too much dressing. Like I said, it is FULL of flavor, so a little goes a long way. Next time, I’ll half the recipe because it makes so much. My husband and I enjoyed this dressing and we’ll make it again. My kids enjoyed it enough to finish their entire salads without as much complaining as normal. 🙂
I encourage you to try new, fun ways to enjoy Mrs. Buttersworth’s or Log Cabin pancake syrup. Who knows, maybe you’ll stumble onto something unique that your family loves for an entree, appetizer, dessert or of course, breakfast!
