I love hearing stories about companies that give back to the community, especially when kids are involved.

Lucky Shoes Donates 300 Shoes to ACCESS

Our favorite local shoe store, Lucky Shoes just donated 300 pairs of shoes to ACCESS, Inc, Akron’s homeless shelter for children and women. Isn’t that amazing?!

You and I may not think much about giving our children a good pair of sneakers but many children (homeless or not) haven’t owned a brand new pair of shoes, especially not the high-quality shoes that Lucky Shoes carries! This donation is a BIG DEAL for those children. Receiving a pair of New Balance, Saucony, Stride Rite, and other quality shoes from Lucky Shoes is a huge deal for these kids.  There is nothing like a new pair of shoes to give kids confidence, a sense of security, and pride. Many thanks to the generous people at Lucky Shoes for providing high quality, new shoes for so many children!

ACCESS homeless shelter is amazing, my family has donated to them financially and with physical goods for years. They have helped over 20,000 homeless women and children since 1984 with a safe place to call home, items for their daily needs, clothing, shoes, and more. They help the women through a holistic and supportive programming to self-sufficiency.

ACCESS is so thankful for the generous donation from Lucky Shoes that will help so many children!

“This incredible donation is so valued by our team and the families we serve,” states Jackie Hemsworth, executive director at ACCESS Shelter. “Items, like these shoes, are a powerful way of helping our homeless children feel welcome, safe, and confident. We’re so thankful for our new partners at Lucky Shoes—and the way they give back in this community.”

You Can Help Akron’s Homeless Children Too

What I have found over the years is that people are generous. People want to help others, especially children.  We can’t all be as generous as Lucky Shoes giving 300 pairs of shoes but everything each of us does do makes an impact! Many of the times, people don’t know how to give or who they can trust. You can trust the people at ACCESS as they have been serving our city’s poorest through housing, advocacy, and empowerment for 35 years!

Here are a couple of easy ways you can help Akron’s homeless children through ACCESS.

  1. Shop the ACCESS wish list on Amazon.com. This is the easiest way to help, simply click on the ACCESS Wish List, order an item they need and that item will be shipped directly to the shelter!
  2. Drop off NEW back-to-school items at ACCESS. This is a list of items they need.  Dropping off donations is fast and easy. 230 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44303. School donations can be dropped off Mon., Tues., Thurs., and Fri., from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. as well as Wed. from 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Sat. by appointment. Charitable donation receipts are available immediately following drop-off.

I know that Lucky Shoes didn’t donate the shoes for recognition or new customers but as a Lucky Shoes customer, I have to tell you that you should stop by Lucky Shoes and Vionic (next door for men & women) for your whole family’s shoe needs. They offer friendly, one-on-one service and the best quality shoes available. You (and your feet) will tell the difference of shopping at Lucky Shoes because you’ll go home with a pair of shoes fitted perfectly for your foot. We are happy customers and so thrilled to see how they give back to the community!
