CHI Enviro Keratin Straightening Treatment at Nicole Jeffery’s Salon & Day Spa Review
I was excited to say goodbye to my dry, frizzy, curly hair and hello to smooth, healthy hair.
The Keratin process takes at least 2 hours, mine took closer to 3 since I have very thick, long hair.
The CHI Enviro Keratin Straightening Treatment is intended to reduce frizz, reduce curl, and add shine and silkiness to your hair. The CHI Keratin treatment uses protein reconstructing complex with amino acids, proteins, silk and pearl to deliver such results. A big bonus about the CHI Enviro Keratin Straightening Treatment is that it is formaldehyde-free. Some Keratin treatments contain up to 2%! Yikes!
How does the Keratin treatment deliver smooth results to your hair? The protein and amino acid complex actually changes the structure of your hair fibers. Instead of bending the fibers for curly hair, like I normally do for my permed hair, this process flattens the fibers out. This gives your hair silky, smooth results. Best of all, the results can last up to 4 months!

My hair was washed several times with a clarifying shampoo. The # of times your hair is washed is based on whether it is virgin hair or not and the condition of your hair. Nicole Jeffrey’s stylists are professionals and really examine the condition of your hair.

Next, my stylist, Gina sectioned my hair off into small sections and the keratin was applied. She precisely combed the solution through each and every strand of hair.

Next, my hair was completely blown dry. After it was dried, it felt a little thick, which of course was the Keratin product dried into my hair.

Finally, Gina took very tiny sections of hair and straightened it with a CHI flat iron. This took quite a bit of time as she carefully and patiently sectioned each tiny section of hair off. This is the part of the process that took the most amount of time. Chilling out in the salon chair is a much needed rest from running around after 2 kids all day, so I didn’t mind at all.

I was AMAZED at how shiny and straight my hair looked. It’s never, ever been so smooth and straight before. In fact, when I looked into the mirror, I felt like I was looking at someone else. Below are pictures of my hair right after the Keratin treatment. Although the Keratin was still thick in my hair, it was already looking soft and shiny. They even gave me a mini-makeover with their TIGI makeup line before I left, free of charge. They do this for anyone that gets a service done, making you feel as glamorous with your new style. I had to wait 24-48 hours to wash my hair after the Keratin treatment. I couldn’t wait to see the results.
[slickr-flickr tag=afterkeratin]The CHI Enviro Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner were recommended for me to use to maintain the Keratin treatment. The process is only as good as you care for your hair. This combo uses pearl and silk complex to provide the maximum moisture to your hair. The shampoo is sulfate free and both are paraben free. Another bonus to getting a Keratin treatment is a faster hair drying time. With my thick locks, I can use all the help I can get!
This set of pictures is my hair washed, combed, and dried with no styling products. It is primarily straight with just a few waves left over from my perm. I can easily get away with wearing my hair this way if I am in a quick wash-n-go mode.
[slickr-flickr tag=afterkeratindried]This set of pictures was taken literally 5 minutes after the first set. I ran my flat iron through my hair in just 5 minutes for these results. I chose to round the bottom portion of my hair under for a little bounce. The results are super shiny, smooth hair. Before I had the Keratin treatment, it would take at least 20 minutes to get my hair straightened and it was never this shiny or healthy looking. Plus, I had to use a ton of products before to help with the frizz and to keep my hair lying flat. I used no styling products in the pictures below.
[slickr-flickr tag=afterkeratinflatiron]After going through all the trouble of getting rid of my curly hair, I am still fond of large, bouncy curls. In fact, this is my favorite look for me. What I love about the Keratin treatment is that I do not have to flat iron my hair first and then curl it with my curling iron! This saves me so much time. Plus, the only styling products I use is a little hair spray to hold the curl.
